I saw that at [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political, and I really don't know how I feel about it. As you said, it does seem "terrifyingly plausible," and if it is true, then she needs to be called out on it. But at the same time, I sit here and hope that no one runs with the story, because I know it will backfire so bad that McCain will win. (At the same time, I know that if the political parties were reversed and a Democrat had possibly pulled this move, the Republicans would have a freakin' field day and still come out smelling like roses.)

[identity profile] calendae.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not buying it. Alaska is a really small state. If this was a plausible rumor, we'd have caught wind of it way before McCain's mystifying choice.

I don't know. It just seems ridiculous.

You couldn't tell I was pregnant until two weeks before I gave birth. There are just lots of factors to giving birth that this piece doesn't take into account. It's different for every woman, and by the time you've had that many kids, you know your body and when and how the whole thing is going to work.

There are other things to peg her on--her stance on abortion, her stance on creationism. But this is just ridiculous and unnecessary.

I swear this plot was on Desperate Housewives last season. I guess if the Democrats get to live out the final season of the West Wing then the Republicans can choose what tv show they want to emulate.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
It does, and I mostly think it's BS based on the pictures, because she actually does look pregnant in them. I just think it's a really twisted rumor.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ha ha. :)

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh shit, does this mean Joe Biden is marked for death? I hope not.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
IDK, I don't think anyone was paying attention prior to yesterday.

[identity profile] ahkna.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
You know, that was the first thing that popped into my head too. That better not happen.

[identity profile] calendae.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Alaskans sure were! :)

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
If only because it seems like the sort of dark twisted shit the Republican party usually feeds on, you know?

But I guess Charlie Crist will be dumping his new 'fiancee' any moment now...

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Pft! Alaska.

Oh. Wait... shit.

[identity profile] poorfrances.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty disgusting anyone would write that, but somewhat mitigated by the fact that the author seems to know nothing about pregnancy or pregnant women. Dovetails nicely, though, with the attacks from Dems I heard on Palin today (namely that it's her fault her kid has special needs, and that it's totally irresponsible for her to run for VP with a special needs child. By all means, the Dems should keep attacking her and her disabled child, it will make the election that much easier).

I call bullshit. Someone would have picked up on this by now.

When I was pregnant with D, you couldn't tell until I was about 8 months, and he was a month early, so you could only tell for about two weeks.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
We're just proving that we like to gossip as much as Republicans do.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
That's what [livejournal.com profile] calendae said, I'm just secretly so pleased at what a juicy storyline it is... hot fresh mess!

[identity profile] powerof3.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm all for a hot mess, but this is just even lower than Daily Kos usually goes.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
The trouble is that IMHO, the weird rumors about Republicans generally turn out to be true, while the weird rumors about Democrats generally don't. Not because our politicians are inherently better behaved -- I think John Edwards proves us out on that, but because Republicans have a highly developed smear machine while most Democrats generally eschew rumormongering as 'below them'.

I actually don't think this is true, based mostly on the fact that it makes more sense for a 44 year old to be giving birth to a child with Downs' than a 16 year old.

But on the other hand, I'd neither be terribly surprised if someone eventually digs up hard evidence. Seems like something the Enquirer is probably all over... about ten hours ago.

[identity profile] baked-goldfish.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Pretty disgusting that anyone would even write the damn story, imo. I hope it dies a quick and natural death.

[identity profile] baked-goldfish.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's not going to happen. Biden is more like Josh than like Leo. So real-life!Santos didn't choose a real-life!Leo, therefore the storyline can't follow through.

/completely irrational rationalization

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty stunned that my flist is so shocked by it. It seems to be basically par for the course this election cycle. (Maybe I should be posting more 'McCain is fucked up in the head' stories.)

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I thought Josh was David Axlerod and or David Plouffe?

[identity profile] baked-goldfish.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, between the "PTSD-ridden secret killer" stories about McCain and the "Islamo-fascist secret terr'ist" stories about Obama, this isn't surprising. It's just gross and annoying.

[identity profile] baked-goldfish.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Personality-wise, Biden is more Josh than Leo. A bulldog with a case of foot-in-mouth disease, basically.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I believe in all of them at the same time.
