skywaterblueThese videos are viral all over the interweb, and a lot of people I like find them funny. I however, do not, because the tag to all the vids is the Sassy Gay Guy calling the Shakesperian heroine a 'stupid bitch'.
Okay, so let's leave aside the fact that Sassy Gay Friend is at least as annoying and offensive a stereotype as a lot of stupid shit. The central premise of the vids is that you are one of the last people alive in the Western World who still can find a laugh in the Sassy Gay Friend trope. (God bless you, island children who never suffered through interminable seasons of 'Will and Grace' and 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy'.)
Does a white man - even a gay one - really HAVE to be the one who tells Ophelia that killing herself isn't a good idea? Really? And then he caps it with 'stupid bitch'.
Anyway, sorry to be the dour killer of fun on that. I feel like a real dyke now, lecturing you all on why just because they're gay doesn't mean they're not white dudes with male privilege. I just thought it was troublesome that my thought was after watching them 'damn, girl, regain some agency and off yourself if that's what you want'.
