I suspect there are probably characters that disprove it but they would be minor or unsuccessful characters. The challenge would be finding a successful female character that didn't work in that arc.

Also, the older I get the less I think we should TRY and break it down. Fitting a woman into the Hero's Journey doesn't work, but it does give society the impression that it should while undervaluing the woman's stories we should be telling.

Finally: this is what the Bechdel test is really trying to measure.
