Not even a week in and I have a peeve:

Does Spock really call Uhura 'Miss' in the new reboot? I know Trek gave up on addressing the female officers as Mr., but c'mon. Surely he uses Ms.

And if he does use Miss, I will hit things. Uhura's not twelve.

I remember coming out of the movie and distinctly noticing that she was always called Lieutenant. The "Miss" thing in fic is bothering me too.

I will have to go see it again (which I will) to be sure.

Heh. Like I need an excuse.

I really don't remember. But whenever my mom sends me anything in the mail, it's always addressed to "Miss My Name" and I despise it. I'm 26. But it seems kind of childish to call and be all "*whine*....don't call me that!!!"

Nope, I flip the fuck out on people who use Miss. It's not appropriate.

Hm. I'm not sure, but I do remember going, "WTF? What happened to 'Mr.'?"

I can't remember when Trek gave up on it. Trying to remember if BSG did as well.

I remember Harry Kim calling Janeway "sir" in the first episode of Voyager, and Janeway telling him she preferred "ma'am," which is more or less related...

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently Jeri Taylor really disliked Star Trek using sir as a gender neutral, so Battlestar Galactica has Lt. Dualla, sir, but Voyager has Captain Janeway, ma'am.

Nngh.

actually she said she preferred "Captain", unless it was "crunch time". ;D

"Ma'am is acceptable in a crunch, but I prefer 'Captain'."
