Actual conversation with my brother this morning, in the car:
My brother: All the Beatles albums are awesome because, um, like take for example this one (we are listening to Sgt. Peppers). I forgot half these songs were on here.
Me: Yeah, but you still have to pick a favorite.
My brother: I guess I pick Revolver.
Me: It's the snobby choice, though. It's so obvious to pick Revolver that I think it's become uncool to pick Revolver.
My brother: You have a point. (frowns, thinking about it) Maybe I'd pick um, Abbey Road, instead.
Me: I always pick the White Album. The White Album is the new Revolver. I even love Revolution No. 9. I am like the only one.
My brother: Oooh. Yeah. I'm gonna say it's the White Album now too. Yoko ONO!
Fuck yes, people.

Date: 2008-09-15 02:55 pm (UTC)Like the fact that when Paul Macca got his Starbucks deal, they printed up "Revolver" and stuck it in front of you when you got coffee as 'the best Beatles album ever'.

Date: 2008-09-15 09:21 am (UTC)I remember how disappointed we were with the White Album when it came out. You could tell things were going wrong - all those pastiches, comedy songs and fragments. It's like Let It Be and you'd hardly make that your favourite, would you?
But Revolver has Tomorrow Never Knows, which is still, over forty years later, futuristic and extraordinary.

Date: 2008-09-15 03:01 pm (UTC)"Eleanor Rigby" is my favorite song of all time, however.
I've never met anyone who would pick "Let it Be", but it would be kind of awesome to see. I mean, it contributed three songs to musical history canon, but the problem with the Beatles is that while that might be enough to qualify lesser bands, you could probably say that about EVERY Beatles album.
