Actual conversation with my brother this morning, in the car:

My brother: All the Beatles albums are awesome because, um, like take for example this one (we are listening to Sgt. Peppers). I forgot half these songs were on here.

Me: Yeah, but you still have to pick a favorite.

My brother: I guess I pick Revolver.

Me: It's the snobby choice, though. It's so obvious to pick Revolver that I think it's become uncool to pick Revolver.

My brother: You have a point. (frowns, thinking about it) Maybe I'd pick um, Abbey Road, instead.

Me: I always pick the White Album. The White Album is the new Revolver. I even love Revolution No. 9. I am like the only one.

My brother: Oooh. Yeah. I'm gonna say it's the White Album now too. Yoko ONO!

Fuck yes, people.

Revolver would have been mu choice too. Not because it's 'snobby' but because I was there at the time and I remember how astonishing it was. But if I can't have that I'd nominate Rubber Soul.

Heh. Obvs. my brother and I don't even remember when John Lennon was ALIVE, so you'll have to realize we're judging based on other criteria.

Like the fact that when Paul Macca got his Starbucks deal, they printed up "Revolver" and stuck it in front of you when you got coffee as 'the best Beatles album ever'.

Abbey Road is slickly produced and makes the most of its material. It's more George Martin than the Beatles, however. Revolver is the sound of the Beatles, finally liberated from the treadmill of touring, catching fire.

I remember how disappointed we were with the White Album when it came out. You could tell things were going wrong - all those pastiches, comedy songs and fragments. It's like Let It Be and you'd hardly make that your favourite, would you?

But Revolver has Tomorrow Never Knows, which is still, over forty years later, futuristic and extraordinary.

My brother has a hard core glam phase thing, though, because he also adores Freddie Mercury, so I don't think 'Abbey Road' is actually that far off a choice for him.

"Eleanor Rigby" is my favorite song of all time, however.

I've never met anyone who would pick "Let it Be", but it would be kind of awesome to see. I mean, it contributed three songs to musical history canon, but the problem with the Beatles is that while that might be enough to qualify lesser bands, you could probably say that about EVERY Beatles album.

Doesn't anyone love Rubber Soul? Though verily, I'd pick Revolver, too.

Abbey Road reached its full potential when Luminosity vidded Scooby Road. (I'm not really kidding about that, I hope you've watched that epic of BTVS vids...)

I love how this thread is entirely composed of European adults at the moment. You should pick Rubber Soul and then defend it to the teeth; it'll look great.

I've heard of it, but it's a bit 'uhm, hm. Rainy day, perhaps?' for me. I'm sure it is faboo, though.

Well, I was born not even a year before the Beatles officially dissolved (1969 - oh, and my Dad was one of THOSE fans who blamed Yoko and Linda, though he has seen the error of his ways now), and I remember my cousin insisting on wearing black to school after John Lennon had died. So I'm between people who actually remember the albums coming out and between youngsters such as yourself.*g*
