1. I love Uhura. (Actually, I knew, but hey.)
2. I'm nominating the new canon to be abbreviated STR - for Star Trek Reboot.
3. Okay, now for the new crew to swim on their own, yeah? I hope to see at least a few good gen stories or maybe some book adventures that take place in the gaps.
4. The scenes on Hoth really bug the fuck out of me because it's so clearly homage to Empire. And then Cloverfield shows up. But I do like the thought that our Star Trek can now have really scary eldritch beasties. That could be quite cool.
5. Cardassian sunrise: Dude. It's not retconning Cardassian history. Cardassia has a pretty extensive empire and is a power in the quadrant long before Human First Contact. They share a border with the Federation. DS9 establishes that there were Cardassians in exile on Vulcan, because Dax (as Tobin, the warp drive engineer and second host) met the poet Iloja there. If anyone knows who has a fucking empire in the 22nd Century, it ought to be Dax.
6. I know the next movie will probably have Klingons, because... duh, but it would be awesome to have Cardassian baddies crew a movie. Sure the casual fans wouldn't know them, but you could do an epic introduction to them AND they're just different enough from Klingons and Romulans so as to be awesome. (Okay, Romulans are kind of facists but this movie focuses on the Vulcan and Romulan relationship.)
7. Oh my god, the little guy with Scotty isn't his pet, it's the other crewman of the base. Admittedly, the direction didn't help.
8. Likewise, it's pretty evident to me that Spock and Uhura are dating WAY before the Turbolift scene. C'mon guys, that 'I'm on the Enterprise,' scene is so Spock's woman ridin' herd on her man.
