Meh, again.
Maybe it's because I'm reading spoilers before I watch them, but I feel like the only thing that genuinely surprised me about tonight's episode was the stuff with Hotdog being Nicky Tyrol's father. A storyline I sincerely hope is going somewhere because what the fuck, why would you retrocanon that there's a second Cylon child AFTER two other Cylons get together and make a baby?
Unless, of course, unborn baby Ellen is in fact, Caprica and Baltar's child. Don't know how that's possible because the timeline is all fucked up, but maybe Cylons store sperm or something.
I did like Gaeta having a showdown with Starbuck. I think Gaeta is going to die, for certain, by the end, and that's unfortunate because... well, I'll talk about it in a bit. Anyway. Gaeta. He hates Cylons a lot and that's not the side to be on anymore, but he is pointing out inconvenient truths about the Fleet and Starbuck that should probably be said more often.
What else? Roslin and Adama had sex, I'm sure that's thrilling for people who think that relationship is hot shit and not terrifyingly enabling. Otherwise, Battlestar Galactica's extreme dislike of democracy continues. It's tired, and makes the show really feel like something from another era - the Bush era, but we all live in Obama time now.
It's especially perverse in that all the characters we know who began respecting the traditions of democracy - Gaeta, Zarek, others, are either dead or clearly marked for death by the end. Except for Lee Adama and Helo, who... well, they give Helo half of Lee's material, when they remember either character exists. Not often. Watch them sideline Lee's role as acting President so they can have a plot this week.
Also: I love that Zarek forgot all about President Baltar.
Oh boy, droogs, another mutiny whoo.

I've decided, given the whole set-up with Six making a VERY BIG DEALTM about the baby being the savior of the Cylon race and Cottle wanting to do tests, etc., that the BIG SURPRISETM is going to be the offspring of two Cylons is, in fact, fully human.
I still feel let down after Ellen and that we need the punch in the gut about what the Cylons are and how they relate to humans and they're not going to give it to us in the form of Roslin or Adama being the fifth, this is the next best thing (even better in some ways)

This wouldn't surprise me. It even maybe makes logical sense.

Date: 2009-01-24 08:33 pm (UTC)Not sure why they keep marginalizing the characters I actually care about (Helo and Athena, Baltar, the Sixes, etc.), and are spending all this time with like Zarek and Gaeta, except they degayified Gaeta, which is annoying.
I have the horrifying suspicion that they don't think those characters are interesting anymore, or can't figure out how to say what they want to say in the plot with them. I feel like that right there should be a BIG RED WARNING SIGN that your TV show has driven off the rails... if you can't find stuff to say for half the main titled cast, you have problems.
Oh! And I loved CrazyAss Baltar and his ever-changing CrazyAss relgion. That ruled.
I like getting to see him, but it annoys me that the rules of his crazyass religion have never been spelled out or made sense. It's like this thing they twisted his character to do - be a preacher, Gaius Baltar! - but didn't really know what good it was to do it.
