I called the credit agency today - turns out that unless I pay it in full, the school won't release my transcript. (I wonder what happens if I did settle it - would the school just 'lose' the three years I went there? Doesn't seem like a good idea to find out.)

I'm not sure what my options are now.

Yeah, I'm in pretty much the same situation. Except that because I went there over 180 days ago, pretty much nobody will give me a private loan. And so my odds of going back to school anytime soon are almost nil.

I can't take out any more private loan money without a cosigner, and I'm pretty burnt on that whole thing. (It was nice to finally get one, but I feel EXTREME guilt over my inability to get shit financially together affecting others.)

What you need to do is go to your local community college and sign up, then get the private loan. Unless it's the community college you owe money to, in which case you might be fucked.
