That's pretty much the reaction in my family. "Not that I don't like the guy," quoth the AP, "but has he actually done anything other than not being George Bush?"
There's been a lot of good subtle things - that's what comes from having a sane person deciding, say, who's in charge of the American Justice department or environmental policy.
It's not what you'd win a Nobel Prize though, since it's like giving a Nobel Peace Prize for say, following traffic laws or paying bills on time. If they could have waited until we see what he gets for health care, maybe they could have justified it as humanitarian...
The thing that gives me pause is, subtle good things or no, the nomination period ended about two weeks after he was inaugurated. So either they nominated him on the off chance that he would do great things (which I guess is what they basically said when explaining it), or they nominated him because he wasn't Dubya.
Still, the dude gets awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on the same day that he bombed the moon.
