Here's a new David Tennant interview.

Though I think it was done at Comic Con. It's charming, in which you learn that Tennant is collecting the Classic Doctor action figures (of course he is!) and which bands he likes now and getting excited about spoilers for Eleven on the internets. And he mentions he would like to play Doctor Strange which... FUCK YES.

I hope someone at Marvel reads that and is like, 'this is a good idea', because I love Doctor Strange and Tennant would actually be very good casting.

I post this as way of also posting this: Tennant joins Simon Pegg in 'Burke and Hare'.

Simon Pegg. David Tennant. Directed by John Landis in a film about Victorian graverobbers. That's going to be ENORMOUS fun. I can't wait.

David Tennant: making fanboys endearing since 2004. *g* My favourite bit was when the interviewer said "you don't want to be Colin Baker" and DT indignantly retorts "Colin Baker was great!"

Speaking of, there is actually a Sixth Doctor audio on these two graverobbers... with David Tennant. (Not as one of the graverobbers, as one of their victims, Daft Jamie, who bonds with the Doctor and whom the Doctor has to send to his history-dictated death.)

I'm looking forward to the movie, but now I'm going to be very mean. Because remember two weeks ago when the most common reaction on lj to the "Free Polanski" petition was "boycott anyone who signed it?" Because one of the people who signed it was John Landis, and now I wonder how many of the people who posted then will keep their boycot resolution.

Doctor Strange? That would be excellent casting, yes!

*g* Yes, but I thought I'd go for the less immediately popping quote. I love that he has a little Patrick Troughton action figure.

I did not know, about the audios. I haven't touched them yet.

Re: Polanski and Landis. Someone did bring it up on [livejournal.com profile] who_anon, but I think by 2011 everyone will have forgotten.

Sadly, this isn't one of the good audios. (I've written a review sometime back.) Some ooc behaviour, a daft plot, and not in the entertaining sense. It's not without its merits - the Baker-Tennant scenes are great and genuinenly touching as of course the Doctor is reminded of that other Scottish Jamie, and early on there is a very amusing one where he once more declares his true love for the TARDIS - but I seriously advise to listen to other audios first.

I still don't think I'm ready for the audios. Though I did finally reach "Survival" the other day. (I rather wish there was some sort of definitive answer about what happens to Ace after that episode.)

On the other hand, if there had been a definitive answer, there wouldn't still be audio books with her, Seven and Hex coming out.:) My own canon for Ace post-Survival is the audio one as the book one never sat right for me.

And I so love those final lines from the Doctor. Still my favourite DW quote and best description of the show by itself.

I love that quote, but:

So obviously tacked on! D: I was looking forward to it. Also, the lesbian subtext was a little overrated in this one - Ace is far, far more subtextual in the other episodes in this season. (Maybe it's the cheetah outfit though. Heh, a whole generation of furries was born from that one, I can tell.)

I'm just saying, that it's sad that this era gets dumped on a lot and isn't a favorite of either of the show runners. Might be nice to have a mention of her.

Actually didn't the writer complain they had lessened the lesbian subtext by making the cheetahs look more furry and less humanoid?

Also the Andrew Llyod Webber posters crack me up.

Oh yes, v. v. frustrating, the lack of Seven era appreciation. However, this is not shared by our Mr. Tennant, who also is in a Seven audio called Coldlitz playing a Nazi with designs on Ace. He has lots of scenes with Sophie Aldred who seems to have taken to him as in a very witty article she wrote during the New Who s2-s3 hiatus, with advice for the next companion, she said: The Doctor, in his current incarnation, is extremely handsome, so don't snog anyone else - stick with him.

(The whole article is here.)

Yes, she did and so did the actress inside the cheetah suit. In the documentary no less! The question that season left me wondering, but I haven't seen anyone give a definitive answer to: is the lesbian not-really-SUBtext in that season because the script editor couldn't out her as a lesbian on a children's program of the 80s, or was it some sort of inner circle titillation?

I ask because I suspect any audience of 2010 watching a new staging of Ghost Light would just assume Ace was a lesbian and that was the point, but neither the real wikipedia or the TARDIS wiki seem to have one line about it.

I quite liked that the Doctor just ran into a grocery and bought cat food, the extent of his cunning plan to capture one of the cats. It made me laugh, anyway.

The Doctor, in his current incarnation, is extremely handsome, so don't snog anyone else - stick with him.

Good advice. *g*

I must remember to ask [livejournal.com profile] kathyh whether she could ask her pal Mark, aka Ghost Light's writer. They used to work together at the BBC. And he should know!

...and wouldn't you know it, the guy is in Namibia on vacation right now. And thus the gathering of knowledge is delayed...
