In Defense of Amy Gardner.

I kind of agree with the tone of this blog, except I think I always also disliked the way Amy pursues her politics. We don't share exactly the same feminism. I tend to think her brand of feminism is why most women in America tell pollsters they don't identify as a feminist.

I think she might have been a more interesting character had she ever stuck around in and racked up more non-Josh scenes. I would have liked to have seen a season five with Sorkin at the helm and Parker promoted to the credits so we could have seen him do the alcoholism plotline. (And man, I just know someone's going to call on me to source that information, so: it's in the s3-s4 scriptbook, and in the Sorkin commentary track on one of her s4 episodes. [livejournal.com profile] michellek knows the score.)

None the less, will never get over the guilt I feel for not liking Amy as much because of being a shipper. SO SORRY TO BE THAT PERSON.

The Flashforward Pilot is gonna have Joseph Fiennes?

Fuck yes. I really enjoyed that book, and it's SAD that Pretty/Handsome didn't get picked up for a full series. That pilot is amazing.

I can't help it. I love Amy so freaking much. Especially in early Season 4. Her being a bookie for the election makes me laugh every time. And, well, everything about "Debate Camp" but Josh interrupting her date is one of my favourites.

"But everyone kills themselves in Scandinavia."
"That's hard to deny."
LOL

Hee. She is SO MUCH better in Season Four and Five when she's not dating Josh.

I agree. Their relationship kind of took away from what I really liked about the show.

But then again, at the same time, some of the best dialogue came from the fact that they HAD dated.

Amy Gardner is good at her job

Except...she's not, which is why she always gets fired from/leaves her jobs. LOL. Maybe because she does things like cutting telephone cords.

I like Amy more than most J/D shippers do, but it doesn't change the fact that she went about things in all the wrong ways.

It's true. Oy.

Thanks for the link; as you know, I like Amy a lot. Incidentally, I liked all of the Josh and Donna alternate love interests - Cliff, the Christian Slater guy, Colin, Mandy, Joey Lucas, Amy, the NASA woman - but with Amy what I loved best was the deloping relationship with Abbey Barlet in s4, which is why I felt severely disgruntled when they made her quit at the start of s5. No, I didn't always agree with how Amy was pursuing her agenda, but I thought it was excellent to have someone on the show who, as the Santos director of communications later puts it, hasn't drunk the cool-aid. (And come to think of it, these two women are quite similar characters.)

Funnily enough, I LOVED Jeanine Garofalo on this show. I'm one of the few. However, her character always struck me as 'they wanted to get Mandy back and couldn't' and I think I'd read speculation to that effect somewhere. I'm also one of the few who likes Mandy.

[livejournal.com profile] michelle_k, by the way, was infamous for being one of the Amy/Donna shippers. For two opposing interests, they don't share nearly enough scenes together. A regret.

I absolutely adore Amy - she's actually my second-favourite TWW woman, after CJ. But I appreciate it looks different from a J/D shipper POV.
