I actually have no intention of answering the question, because I'm mainly a canon shipper. (Unless those canon ships suck, in which case I don't ship.)
I just wanted to post this because it continues to amuse me that LJ is run by Russians and fangirls.
ETA: And anyway, two of these examples are fucking canonical. We know that Gaius wants Roslin bad, and that Angel and Spike have had sex.

Date: 2008-12-10 07:53 am (UTC)Speaking of non canon pairings, though: where do the Toby/Ellie Bartlet stories come from? Not that I'm opposed, I'm just curious. I don't recall them ever sharing a scene together. Is it based on "they both of have issues with Jed and she used to be a redhead before going blonde"?

Date: 2008-12-10 09:48 am (UTC)I think so, also there's a bit of canon-Mary-Sueing involved. I always figured she was a lesbian, but canon shot that to bits.
There's also a bunch of weird Josh Lyman/Zoey or Hogan Cregg (!!!) fic. (At least Zoey and Josh have met. I actually think it's more workable than Toby/Ellie, although it's never nearly as creepy as the entire premise suggests it should be.)

Date: 2008-12-10 01:44 pm (UTC)Josh/Zoey versus Toby/Ellie: as you say, at least Josh and Zoey have shared screentime, and presumably his "Charlie, this is a girl" remark can be interpreted to say he has noticed this biological fact. Anyway, so you're saying the Toby-inclined people sue Ellie, and the Josh-inclined fans sue Zoey - I assume this means Liz by virtue of having gotten the least screentime and being the mother of two children, and being the oldest isn't anyone's Sue instead of getting paired with Sam. Ts.
Creepy: I would say something about the age difference for a start, but in fairness, given that canon has paired up Leo with Jordan and Annabeth, that by itself is no obstacle. And given Sam/Mallory, Josh would be on well-tread ground regarding hooking up with a daughter of his boss and father figure as well. But Toby/Ellie is, err, unprecedented and definitely would beat them all for proving psychiatrists with work for years.
(Sidenote: rewatching Ellie, I noticed that her calling Danny to give him that "my father won't fire the surgeon-general" quote and his reaction, the genuine anger and the reconciliation at the end where he doesn't say "sorry for yelling" but tries to make her laugh and at first she refuses to but gives in as he keeps up with the string of medical speciality names, does resemble the Toby interactions a bit, but I'm not sure that makes for a relationship basis...)
It does occur to me that with Doug the lightweight philanderer, Vick the shy fruit-fly guy, and Jean-Paul the French caricature, all three Bartlet girls seem to have deliberately picked guys unlike Dad. With Charlie being something of an exception; not that he resembles Jed, but he's not a light-weight. And he's the one Zoey broke up with...

Date: 2008-12-10 07:55 pm (UTC)Liz doesn't show up until the Wells seasons, so I think most of the shipping had been decided by then. (Also, isn't Jordan of similar age to Leo? Leo himself is not that old, he's like late 50s early 60s, and Jordan isn't exactly the youngest female character ever introduced. You're right about Annabeth, though.)

They do get back together again, though. Speaking of odd, Zoey's the only Bartlet daughter for which we don't know what she plans on doing with her adult life. Liz is a homemaker (and sometimes powerbroker) and Ellie is a doctor. Zoey's ambitions remain a giant blank.
