skywaterblue: (Las Vegas!)

It started snowing at around 10am, so my mother yelped to wake us up. (I maintain that I was perfectly awake, dammit, merely deeply thinking.) I sniffed and went over to the window, where the big fat fluffy flakes were plopping wet onto sidewalk. "But it's not sticking."

And then I made myself some coffee.

But by God, wouldn't you know it, but it has now started to stick. Las Vegas snow has been achieved! I must say it's giving no signs of stopping so we may indeed end up with an inch or two.

Forgive my ignorance, but how does it snow in a desert type area?

The same way it snows in a regular area.

Las Vegas? It's not very warm here in the winter, dude. It just doesn't always rain AND reach a cold enough temperature for it to snow. However, since we're plumb in the middle of the Rockies, my sister snowboards almost every day because she just leaves the valley for Mount Charleston. It's about an hour's drive.

Well, I've only ever been to the airport as a stopover, and everything I've ever seen on tv or in the movies shows the desert. i.e. CSI! Even those House Hunter type shows have searches primarily in the desert type areas outside of LV. So, basically, I only know of it as desert. And snow in a desert seems strange to me. Bear in mind, most of Australia is a desert and it snows in maybe ONE place and that's near the mountains by the coast. You should take pics for me so I will become smart and knowledgable!

I want to go to Red Rock tomorrow if I can bum a car and some money. Since if I take pictures of my hood it's less impressive due to being a neighborhood and not the desert.

I was hoping the year's snowstorm would wait until [livejournal.com profile] fashionbeast came to visit. Unless we get another, it'll be all gone by New Year's for sure.

I'm calling it Summerlin snow, as it's not snowing here and I'm technically in Vegas too. :P

Okay, but you're on the outskirts of the Lakes, if that's the case. :P When I lived on Durango and Buffalo, we considered it Summerlin. Bah.

Yes, but we're def. on the Lakes side and not Summerlin. We're zoned for Bonanza here.

Mm. I guess it really does come down to what side of the street you live on, doesn't it?
