It felt like we'd never see the back of Mr. George W. Bush, but here we are. Thank God.

My thoughts:

After all the build up about Rick Warren, his prayer was too long and boring. This fuck is the leader of a bizillion member church? God, white Christians must be really desperate because unless this was a really off day, he couldn't find religious inspiration with a dashboard GPS unit and Google maps. Fail.

The classical musicians (YO YO MA RULES) delivered, though. Aaron Copeland for the win.

Obama and Chief Justice Roberts tripping over the oath was a bit lolarious. Hee, Barack, calm down, don't be so eager to say it, you know?

The poem was kind of trite and she didn't have a good delivery, which was sad because this is the only time Americans sit through a poetry reading. (Despite Blago's best efforts, I guess.)

But to top it off, Rev. Lowrey, who looks all of a hundred years old, brought the house down with his benediction. Long, but captivating! Why couldn't they have asked him to do the opening prayer and skipped the whole wangst about Warren?

In conclusion: I love the Obama Pepsi ads. I am a terrible person.

The Yo Yo Ma thing broke my brain a little, but I was giggling over the cuteness of the oath fumbling. *g*

My brother reminds me of this a lot: 9 year old Yo-Yo Ma played for JFK.

Apparently Obama was correcting Roberts because he forgot the faithful bit and Obama thought he needed help. Oh bbs, that's what happens when you over-practice. *g*

Ok, THAT? Is even cuter than him being over-anxious.

Totally agree about Warren- he was ever-so-slightly scary, and had me wondering what we were in for with the rest of the ceremony. Overall it was pretty good... first US inauguration I've watched, and not half as long as I thought it might be (once it got going)!

Bloomin' BBC commentators kept talking over the announcements, and worse- when the musicians started playing we couldn't hear them as the Beeb kindly decided to tell us "and now we're listening to this specially composed piece". How nice for them... wish we could have heard more of it ourselves.

It's not that bad when it gets started - if you time it right you can cut out a lot of the boring pre-game. (I woke up at 8am, and if not for Obama being a bit behind, I might have missed the oath when making coffee.)

I got up at one a.m. (so I could have breakfast ready when Morning Joe started at two), and the inauguration was at 8am Alaska time. (Good grief, it was at what, six or seven a.m. in Hawaii? Sheesh.) I watched about 15 straight hours of TV that day. :)

The BBC's coverage consists of them running live video and talking all over it and all over anyone else talking, then talking more as they give their "analysis" of the situation. STFU, FFS! Which pissed me off to the point where I moved over to CNN. The BBC REALLY suck sometimes.

Dumb. The analysis here consists of people talking about what people are wearing, and how the elder statesmen look, and discussing the contents of the speech. And of course, the schedule and how behind it's running. *g*

Very dumb. Also, how the hell can they give analysis on something that is still happening and hasn't finished yet?!
