I'm supposed to be writing some essay answers about The Republic right now, but since "Thrasymarchus is a retarded straw man character," is not, I suspect, an acceptable interpretation of Plato, I make you with the links right now.

Did you know that Facebook is reliving all the old LJ wanks, one by one? This time: pictures of boobies in user icons! I, for one, eagerly anticipate the day when the Googlehosebeast has to fight off angry pedo-slashers and then gets bought by Russians.

Here are some pictures of birds, shot at high speed. Who knew sparrows were such vicious aerial fighters? How come there are a zillion stories about mice with swords but no stories about sparrow dog-fighting?

There's a rather interesting theory about Thrasymachus in some corners, actually: that the entire point of the Republic is that he's the one who's right.

Seriously? Hm. That's a pretty cynical view of it, but I can get behind it if only everyone else in the group didn't seem to be enjoying dogpiling the bastard.

I think to an extent you're supposed to be swayed by his seemingly logical argument, and so you get interested in how Socrates is going to refute it, like Glaucon and Adeimantus do. But Socrates is clearly the boss, let's make no mistake. :)

It isn't really that captivating for me. It's like a bad thread day on ONTD_P. Clearly Plato did not forsee that most of his readers would be wary of trolling.

I like the idea about the birdy book

Those pictures were incredible. That stuff goes on outside my window all day, and I had no idea. Sparrows are mean little cusses.

I think your book idea is a good one.

Sparrows are so innocent and wee looking, but evidently they've never forgotten they're from the ancient lineage of dinosaurs.

I always wondered why Swift, the woman with bird wings, was in the Authority. Then I read about what birds of prey can do, multiplied that up to a human scale, then suspended all the physics problems and went "Ah."
