skywaterblue: (Las Vegas!)

More than 100 residents of a tiny Texas town who flew to Las Vegas last week paid for by the Las Vegas Convention and Tourism Authority remained stranded at the airport Wednesday night.

--from the Las Vegas Sun.

I dead from laughing. You see, the tourism board got the bright idea to give this entire hick town in Texas free trips to Las Vegas to show off how affordable it is to visit. (Or something.) So we've been treated to a couple of exciting 'lol, hicks' articles and bits on the news recently.

Anyway, they're stuck at the airport. Best.Marketing.Ever.

So in addition to the airport being closed, so is every highway in and out of town. No salt and no plows. Also, the entire school system is down tomorrow. This has no meaning to us, as my brother is homeschooled, but I'm sure if he weren't it would be terribly exciting.

I didn't know your brother was homeschooled. That's cool.

[livejournal.com profile] commander_d is crazy excited about there being no school tomorrow. What he is less excited about, however, is the possibility of a make-up day at the end of the semester.

And Aidan keeps trying to get outside to see this magical white stuff falling from the sky. I keep telling him that it's not a good idea for him to go out there, but he's being very insistent.

He's unschooled at the moment, but since he plays X-Box like eight hours straight, my mother is doing the paperwork for him to do distance learning.

We're getting the bum rush on the snow here. It stopped at 5:30.

Isn't he the same age as D? I can't remember. D would play on the computer for 8 hours straight if I'd let him. I try not to do that, though. :|

It was barely falling a little while ago. I wonder if we'll get more overnight.

He's 13.

I'm hoping for more snow. After all, I ain't got anywhere to be. ;)

Okay. A year younger than D. I knew it was close, but I wasn't sure how close.

I want more snow, too. Not like I have anywhere to be either.

Wait... what?

Las Vegas has snow?

Or rather, enough precipitation at a freezing temperature to make people OMFG?

Supposedly about six inches in some parts of town. Plus, we don't have supplies for snowfall, so... town's all fucked up. I think the airport is trying to figure out how to defrost planes.

Because of how crazy that concept is (and because over here in Champaign, we've only got about 2 inches or so on the ground I think), I decided the rest of the world needs to know about the insanity too.

Supposedly, we have about twelve snowplows... in the entire county. But on the news I saw the government is sending out pickups with sand in them, so like, yay sand.

FYI.

There are 2 snowplows in Clark County, working hard to make sure that we can go and visit Mt. Charleston.

I am so not looking forward to the drive to work tomorrow.

I heard we had about twelve snowplows... for the entire county. LOL. We had to bum some off of Tonapah.

Should I send down some of our "Snowmancers" to sculpt the snow into shovel-armed "isgolem" which will then clear the streets?

You know what they say, there's no mancers like Snowmancer, like any- OKay, I'll stop.

It's an awesome short story idea. The Snowmancer of Chicago.
